Dr. Shankar Ayyappan Kutty is a Consultant Neurosurgeon. Prior to joining NMC, he was a Senior Consultant and HOD of Neurosurgery at Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Kerala, a 600 bed tertiary care facility and the first multi-speciality hospital in India to gain NABH accreditation. During his stint at MIMS he led a broad range of surgeries spanning the gamut of brain and spine surgeries. These included intracranial aneurysm clipping, excision of skull base tumours, spine tumour surgery and craniofacial surgeries. He was also involved in performing complex multi-speciality surgeries in association with Surgical Oncologists, Plastic Surgeons and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr.Shankar was instrumental in setting up a fully fledged neurosurgery department at Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi, India. He completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Kozhikode and went on to do his M.Ch. in Neurosurgery from the prestigious Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore. He has also completed a clinical fellowship in skull base and vascular surgery from Fujita University, Japan and has an MBA in Hospital Management. In 2015 he was also admitted as a Fellow of the European Board of Neurological Sciences (FEBNS). Dr. Shankar has published articles in various international journals and has also presented papers at national and international conferences. He has also been involved in the peer review process for a number of journals including the Indian Journal of Neurotrauma and BMJ group of journals. He has co-authored a chapter in the Indian Clinical Neurosurgery, Volume II, published in 2002 by CBS Publishers. He holds membership in several prestigious professional bodies, including the European Association of Neurological Sciences, Congress of Neurological Sciences, USA and the Neurological Society of India. He is an instructor in the ATLS course being conducted by the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Shankar speaks English, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil.
