Dr Zialyazan Sabbagh, MD, Ph.D, is a General and Trauma Surgeon specialist.

Dr Sabbagh graduated from Rostov State Medical University in the Russian Federation in 1997. He then completed a surgical residency program at Rostov Oncological National Center, obtaining his Certificate of Registration and was granted a Ph.D. in Oncological Surgery in 2001.

He began his career as an attending surgeon in the Ministry of Health in Damascus, Syria, before moving to the UAE in 2004. Dr Sabbagh worked at Mafraq Hospital as a senior specialist in trauma and acute care surgery for 12 years, than he shifted to Sheikh Khalifa medical City in 2016 where he worked as an acting consultant in General Surgery division. He chaired the Trauma Committee in SKMC till July 2024.

Dr Sabbagh has many publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented in a number of many Surgical conferences. He has extensive experience in medical education and surgical residency program in UAE.

Dr Sabbagh is also a member of several professional organizations:

• European Hernia Society (EHS)
• European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES)
• Emirates Medical Association and the Emirates Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Special interests:

• Laparoscopic and open hernia repair for wide range of simple and complicated incisional, umbilical, inguinal and other complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
• Laparoscopic and open treatment of gallstones disease including complicated cases.
• Laparoscopic and open surgery for colorectal disease including bowel tumors, diverticulitis, in addition to proctology (Hemorrhoid, anal fissure, perianal fistula)
• Extensive experience in management of Trauma and acute care surgery including surgical abdominal emergency like acute appendicitis, intestinal obstruction and gastrointestinal tract perforation.
• Diagnostics and surgical treatment of abdominal tumors
